Banksy is a British artist and writer, considered one of the major and controversial exponents of street art, whose true identity still remains unknown.
His artistic creations, mostly murals scattered around the world, allow the viewer to reflect on the society and the capitalist system in which we are immersed and become a tool and symbol of struggle and protest against diversity and injustice.
BANKSY’s murals of social and political commentary have appeared on the streets, walls and bridges of cities around the world. From “Girl with Ballon” of 2002 in London, to “Flower Thrower” appeared in Jerusalem in 2005; from the “Migrant Child” of 2019 in Venice to the various interventions in various places in Bristol and in many other parts of the world. Lastly, in 2022, 7 BANKSY murals appeared in Ukrainian territory, especially in Kiev and other war-torn cities.
The only known information relates to the fact that BANKSY’s work was born in Bristol’s underground cultural scene, which saw artists and musicians collaborate. Banksy says he was inspired by 3D, a graffiti artist who later became a founding member of the English band Massive Attack.
On BANKSY there are publications, magazines, films, institutional and private exhibitions, books… he is one of the most famous and collected artists in the world and, in 2010, together with Lady Gaga, Obama, Robert Pattinson, Sir Elton John and Prince, Banksy was also named one of the most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.
