During his prolific artistic activity, Hokusai has changed his signature for at least 30 times, giving himself different names generally coinciding with the change in his artistic style.

The most famous and well-known series, of which the work above is part, is “36 Views of Mount Fuji” represented by 36 woodcuts whose production was started around 1830, at the height of Hokusai’s artistic career, and depicting Mount Fuji (which in Japanese tradition represents immortality) in 36 different points of view and as many atmospheric conditions.

This series includes the most iconic and popular work of Hokusai The Great Wave of Kanagawa“, the first of the series, published between 1830 and 1831 which today represents one of the best known images in the world.
